Calling all art lovers who want to be involved in a pivotal moment in a young artist's life!

Following on the heels of three very successful years launching VEAA - from the inaugural show hosted by The Avenue Gallery  – with nearly 30 pieces selling in less than a minute on opening night to much of the same the second time around at The Sculpture Studio.  Last year, we counted over 800 people in attendance of this high profile exhibition in our new gallery location at 1016 Fort Street. This fall, yet another group of young emerging artists will showcase their work at the fourth annual Victoria Emerging Art Awards.   Inspired by Chinese Art Prize in Shanghai and the Cheaper Show in Vancouver, VEAA will feature 10 up and coming artists between the ages of 19-35 y/o living on Vancouver Island who have been vetted by a well-rounded jury sourced from the Victoria art community. In order to qualify, the artists cannot have gallery representation or extensive exhibition history. It is up to the public (YOU!) to vote on the top three winners.  A competitive  cash prize will be awarded to first place winner, a generous gift certificate to art supplies for the second place winner and a complimentary art course for the third. All 10 showcasing artists, aka the “VEAA Collective”, will have earned 1 year of representation by Victoria Emerging Art Gallery.  While contracted with VEAG, the collective will also receive exciting solo and group exhibition opportunities in the Victoria art community, mentorship and assistance in increasing the value of their work over time.     The exhibition and sale will feature painting, sculpture and photography. For one night only these dynamic pieces will be $200 tax included! VEAA is an open invitation to the community and every vote counts. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to collect original fine art at an incredible price and help to launch a young artist’s career.

Fixed Price Formula

How to place a monetary value on an up and comer's artwork? Immediately following the award show, the Victoria art  market (YOU) will have determined the value base on the fixed price formula below: 1st place winner goes from the opening night special price of $200 to $800, 2nd place winner to $600 and the 3rd place winner gets bumped up to $400. The remaining finalists' work will get bumped up to $300. Following the opening night show, there will be a "rehang" and each artist will reveal 3 new pieces that will have been priced according to the fixed price formula voted by the public. As we believe that fine art should be a viable career choice for more people we want to make art more accessible. Therefore, we are nurturing a shift away from focusing on 'art stars' whose pieces are astronomically priced and bought solely as investments. With increased sales, and the opportunity of dynamic solo and group exhibitions at VEAG, we work with each and every artist to help them increase the value of their work.  Each artist will adhere to the fixed price formula 6 months post award show to encourage new collectors.
